# 455 - Attend a Roller Derby

***For our first Match we Have the Unholy Rollers vs everybody's Favorite team (and for good reason!) The Reservoir Dolls!***
The  Unholy Rollers

The game starts out strong with the Rollers and the Dolls staying almost neck and neck for the first couple of minutes. You can tell that these two local teams while usually pretty friendly are also being very competitive at the same time
There are a bunch of clean hits and a couple of knock overs, but no serious injuries.

As the first half wears on, The Unholy Rollers begin to pull ahead. The Vicious Van Gogo, Rosetta Stoned and the rest of the Dolls just can't seem to catch up to Rollers' Jammers!

Things are looking a little grim for the Dolls.

These ladies are not playing around
With grim determination, the Dolls start off the second half strong.
A new Jammer shows her face at the start line and the crowd cheers. The whistles blow once, then twice and the small but spunky jammer blazes her way down the track and squeeze through holes in the pack that seemingly weren't there before. This was Mouse.

The Dolls soon close the gap in the score and the game is close.  With just a few minutes left on the clock the Dolls are ahead by one point.

It was anybodies game.

Two more Jams and it was over! The had Dolls won!

My first Roller Derby match was a nail biter I would describe Roller Derby as a sport for geeks. Many of the names are puns and everybody can have fun dressing up. It's competitive and sometimes dangerous, But always tons of fun. I wont be forgetting my first match anytime soon!

#454 - Visit Safe house in Milwaukee WI

This last weekend, I used a few of my personal days to visit my sister in Madison WI.  And as it just so happens I heard just recently about a haven for spys and agents of espionage in Milwaukee WI, called International Exports Ltd. or The Safe House. This intrigue and subterfuge themed restaurant/bar was just my kind of place.

Now The Safe House  is nontraditional in a couple of ways. To start off, The Safe House doesn't even advertise and it is not even easy to find!  When you do find the place, you are required to have a password in traditional speakeasy style. A few secret passages later and you find your way to the main bar. Between the many nooks and crannies that you are encouraged to explore, and the spy themed drinks, this place will have you entertained all night. A few key things to watch out for:
  1. If you don't know the password to get in, be prepared to make follow some simple directions...
  2. Careful what buttons you press
  3. Check out the extensive autograph collection... It's pretty impressive
  4. If you wanna see a special spectacle for somebodies birthday or other event, reserve them a hail to the chief. You wont be disappointed!
  5.  Keep an eye out for the butt cam
  6. And when your done for the night, make sure to do a quick getaway via superman's changing booth.
A giant spy themed moving puzzle on the walls
After dinner with my sister and her friends we headed for a friendly game of blackjack for Drinks.  The dealer was friendly and funny and made us feel at home.

And to finish out the night we headed over to the empty dance floor and started that party going. After we hit the floor and started having some fun, other soon joined us, and by the time we left,  we had that dance floor full.
So whether your looking a original and fun atmosphere, a laid back game of poker, or would like to explore this spy themed establishment, The Safe House is a place you don't want to pass up next time you're near Milwaukee!
You can leave anytime you want... for the right price

#373 - Spend a day walking backwards

Okay, so some of you may be asking why would you want to do this.

So lets start off with what the experts have to say:

 http://www.onlinebraingamesblog.com/brain-fitness/walking-backwards-may-be-good-for-your-brain

So there you have it! Apparently there are many physical and mental benefits from walking backwards, that range from an increase in balance, peripheral vision and hearing as well as potentially building new neural connections.

Also people in China and japan do it so... good enough for me!

I manged to do it the entire day despite the people and doors I've run into. I noticed that i get tired more quickly when i walk backwards, So it definitely uses a different group of muscles.

I got a wide range of reactions when people saw or heard that was walking backwards for the day. Some people cheered me on, others thought I was just being stupid. Our unit counselor thought I was striving for attention. I got a surprising number of people who just thought I lost a bet.

I started off the day with my fellow corpsmember and associate Seph walking backwards with me, but alas he stopped after a few hours. people were surprised that i kept with it, but I considered it a test to my mental fortitude to keep going.

It was an interesting day and I'm glad I did it.... if your looking for something different to do, I would recommend trying it and see what happens!
